A shower of medals at the CGA

What is the Salon de l'Agriculture?

The Salon de l’Agriculture is a French event held in Paris every year in late February and early March. It is a trade and consumer show dedicated to agriculture, livestock breeding and gastronomy.

During the show, thousands of exhibitors come from the 4 corners of France to represent and promote the know-how of their region. Breeders of cattle, pigs, sheep, poultry, sheep and other animals are on hand to exhibit their animals and showcase their trade. Demonstrations of agricultural techniques, conferences and debates are also organized.

The Salon de l’Agriculture has become a very popular French tradition, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. It enables producers to meet consumers directly, promote their products and communicate the challenges of their profession.

THE GENERAL AGRICULTURAL COMPETITION...

This year’s Salon International de l’Agriculture was the venue for the 131st Concours Général Agricole, an annual event organized in France as part of the Salon de l’Agriculture. This national competition rewards the best agricultural and food products from France.

Did you know?

The Concours Général Agricole was created in 1870 to encourage French producers to improve the quality of their products. Today, it rewards thousands of products in different categories every year: wines, cheeses, charcuterie, honey, oils, fruit and vegetables, meats, spirits and more.

5 competition categories are rewarded each year:

  • The breeding stock competition, which rewards the best French breeding stock,
  • The wine competition, a benchmark in the world of wine,
  • The products competition, a benchmark of quality since its creation,
  • The young professionals competition, which each year reveals young talent through 5 dedicated competitions,
  • The agroecological practices competition, rewarding the agroecological balance achieved by breeders on their meadows.

Competing products are evaluated by a jury of professionals and experts, who award gold, silver and bronze medals to the best among them. Concours Général Agricole medals are recognized the world over as a benchmark of quality and a guarantee of French know-how.
