VEDRENNE TURNS 100!
Discover its history since 1923...
1923

Shortly after the First World War, Joseph VEDRENNE, originally from Corrèze and trained as an engineer, set up stills in several wine-growing regions. Because of his frequent travels in Burgundy, in 1923 he founded the company VEDRENNE Père et Fils in Nuits-Saint-Georges. This was a period when Marc de Bourgogne was widely consumed in bars, particularly in Paris.
1930

As early as the 1930s, VEDRENNE, a pioneer in fruit maceration, set up specific tools to preserve all the fruit’s taste qualities. The company then specialized in fruit extraction, offering the top-of-the-range “Supercassis” crème de cassis, as well as numerous flavors of fruit creams and syrups.
1945

During the 30 Glorieuses, Joseph’s two sons, Robert and Jean VEDRENNE, developed the distillery and export markets, particularly in Italy. During this period, they mainly exported Marc and Fine de Bourgogne.
1950

From the 1950s onwards, Robert VEDRENNE’s sons Marcel, Joël and François expanded the range of liqueurs and fruit creams to include new flavors. Maceration and distillation take place in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
VEDRENNE liqueurs reach new international markets with a wide variety of flavors.
1974

The company, previously located in Rue des Blés in Nuits-Saint-Georges, moved to Passage Montgolfier, where it is still based today. Over the years, the premises have expanded and adapted to the company’s development and the needs of its growing team.
1987

Marie Brizard, a Bordeaux liqueur maker, seized the opportunity to buy the company in 1987, entrusting the production of creams and liqueurs to VEDRENNE.
1997

Ten years later, the RENAUD-COINTREAU family – liquor makers via Verveine du Velay – bought VEDRENNE and merged the PAGÈS and VEDRENNE companies.
2001

In 2001, VEDRENNE opened a museum in Nuits-Saint-Georges entirely dedicated to the fruit that has contributed to its renown: the blackcurrant.
A visit to the Cassissium (Site remarque du Goût) is a veritable ode to blackcurrants: history, cultivation, processing…guided tour of the VEDRENNE production facilities and tasting.
2006

In spring 2006, VEDRENNE integrates DOLFI. Liqueur de Fraise de Bois, an essential product for bartenders, strengthens VEDRENNE’s leading position on the circuit.
In summer 2006, PAGÈS joins forces with SALERS – famous for its authentic gentian and firmly established in Auvergne and Parisian cafés and restaurants.
2017

In 2017, the company was recognized as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant.
Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant is an official French label created in 2005, issued under the authority of the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, to distinguish French companies with artisanal and industrial know-how deemed to be of excellence.
2019

In 2019, VEDRENNE’s identity is asserted with the creation of its new logo showing its commitment to local products, notably with the presence of the French flag.
This new graphic identity will be launched at the same time as the new 100% local and environmentally-friendly packaging for the VEDRENNE syrup range. The syrup recipes have been redesigned to be more natural, with less sugar and no artificial coloring.
2022

In 2022, VEDRENNE is redesigning its entire professional and supermarket range with designs that highlight the fruit and flavor of its products.
By modernizing its professional range, VEDRENNE anchors its desire to develop in bars, and wishes to continue inspiring mixology professionals.

The company’s PME+ label recognizes its policy and commitments to French manufacturing, sustainable relations with farmers, the choice of local suppliers to limit transport and promote the local economy, the development of natural formulas, and the eco-design of products.
2022

VEDRENNE celebrates its 100th anniversary with a limited edition of its iconic liqueur: SUPERCASSIS.
This packaging, available throughout 2023, features an infinite number of randomly colored blackcurrant berries on each label. For this edition, VEDRENNE drew inspiration from a label from its archives dating back to the 1950s.
